Antique Georgian Silver Wig Spectacles

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

A charming example of solid sterling silver ''wig'' glasses, dating from the reign of George III.

They are hallmarked for Birmingham 1813 and carry the maker''s mark for the highly esteemed Joseph Willmore. They are in a fabulous condition, especially given their age and frailty. They are well gilded, with just small loss of the gilding on the arm hinges. They were designed to be tucked under a wig or tied at the back of the head (hence the loops at the ends of the arms).
