Description

Sampson Mordan: a good quality silver SCENT BOTTLE finely and profusely engraved, the lid opening to reveal the glass interior and glass stopper in perfect condition. Hallmarked for London 1881.

** Sampson Mordan, who invented the propelling pencil, was renowned for producing finest quality silver “small-ware” throughout the second half of the 19th century. Upon his death in 1843 his sons (Sampson junior and Augustus) continued to run the business until 1941 when the factory was destroyed during the London Blitz,
