Exquisite 'K.uyeda' Large (230gm) Vintage Japanese Sterling 950 Silver Case

A truly exceptional cased heavy large and highly decorative sterling silver Japanese vintage cigarette case with a superb engraved floral detail in gold and silver.

Made by the highly regarded firm of 'K.Uyeda' in Japan at some point around the second quarter of the 20th century.

This super quality case opend by sliding one side down slightly allowing the case to open. Signed to the outer of the case and hallmarked to the interior. This beauty lives in it's own fitted case with turquoise silk lining and marked in gilt lettering with 'K.Uyeda Jeweller Imperial Hotel Tokyo'

This wonderful example weighing a heavy 230gms is very substantial in the hand and part of a superb collection I have recently acquired and will be offering on here. This wonderful feels very substantial in the hand.

In 1884, "K.UYEDA", the predecessor of Uyeda Jeweller, was founded on Ginza Dentsu Street (Old Minamisaeki-cho, Kyobashi-ku), Tokyo. Kichigoro Uyeda, the founder, mastered English on his own and started a business as an art store for people from overseas. In his store, pendants, brooches and earrings made with Hirado handiwork (a traditional handiwork style consisting of patterns drawn using thin silver wire and decorated with Cloisonné) captured people's attention as well as a variety of Satsuma porcelain vases, plates, ivory carvings, and silver tableware or ornaments. It was said that customers from overseas loved his products and longed to snap them up from the store.
