This interesting PAIR OF COUNTRY HOUSE ORIENTAL WALL SCONCES have their own story to tell.

The ORIENTAL DISHES, decorated in the IMARI PALETTE, date from around 1800. When the fashion for everything Oriental raged, in the late 1800s/early 1900s,the brass surrounds and sconces were made to give the dishes a new life. Though one DISH was damaged their value was recognised, even 100 years ago.

The brass frames are of Oriental design, to complement the dishes. They feature dragon's heads and bamboo canes.

The brass has been left untouched, ie not polished, to reflect the SCONCES' interesting history.

Condition: One Dish in good condition. The other has been broken and reglued with old-fashioned brown glue. Two small pieces of the original porcelain are missing. The brass frame supports it well. The four candle cups have, at some time, been drilled to carry an electric wire.
