Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
This impressive basket features an array of highly desirable characteristics ranging from the use of a very sturdy gauge of silver for its formation to the fine and intricate chased floral embellishments.

The bowl section is supported by a large and sturdy pedestal foot that has been elegantly shaped.
A particularly noteworthy feature of this basket is in the intricacy of the craftsmanship in presenting an asymmetric and elegant Rococo (Rocaille) design with curved edges, wrythen sides and a highly ornate floral/foliate chased design.
The handle is slightly loose but it will stand up if carefully positioned.

The centre of the basket is left plain with a spectacular hand-engraved coat of arms for Kipping impaling another and a presentation message below which reads as follows: “Presented by Sir John Hanmer, Bart, to Thomas Trevor Mather Esqr March 1st 1836”.

Due to the large size of the basket, in the modern-day, it may be used for various purposes from simply a stylish interior display piece to a practical serving basket with your favourite foods and sweets.

The basket is fully hallmarked on the underside will English marks.
Images with other wares are solely for display purposes - all other items may also be purchased separately.
