Rare Silver Triple Sovereign Case Birmingham 1912

1900 - 1920
Description

A rare solid silver Triple Sovereign Case. The outer case of the Holder is decorated with an engine turned stripped pattern with an empty circular cartouche in the centre of the front cover. The lid opens perfectly with a push button release, and when opened three spring loaded compartments are revealed in an engine turned pattern, to hold the sovereigns (all of which work faultlessly). The underside of the lid has a pale gold gilt wash and here very clear hallmarks are visible for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1912 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver, along with the maker's mark for the renowned silversmith: Joseph Gloster Ltd. (Partial hallmarks are also visible on each of the sovereign compartments - see images).

This case is a good heavy gauge of silver.

A very collectable Sovereign case, unusual and rare.

Condition: The case is in very good condition. There are some very slight surface indentations to the front and back commensurate with age and use and some very slight wear to the stripped pattern on the lid.

Measurements:

Width: 8.5 cm approx

Depth: 3.5 cm approx

Height: 1.1 cm approx

Weight: 50.9 grams approx

Weights and measurements are approximate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
