Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Bowl 1900

1900 - 1920
Description

This is antique Victorian sterling silver bowl hallmarked for London 1900 with ram’s head decoration to the sides and on one side a head which is possibly George lV and on the other side a female head which is possibly Caroline of Brunswick.

On each end is a royal crown above a heraldic design.

On the bottom is the ‘crowned R’ mark for Neresheimer & Sohne who were the preeminent German makers of top quality silver items.

Based in Hanau, Neresheimer made fine copies of important silver items, often with a royal theme, and these items were exported all over the world.

When imported into England the items were given the standard English hallmark, plus the stamp of the importer Singleton, Benda & Co Ltd.

The bowl has the fleur de lis pattern in many places, and around the shaped base there are floral swags and a repeat of the fleur de lis and the heraldic design.

It measures 4 3/4" (12 cms) x 4" (10 cms) and stands 3" (7.5 cms) high.

It weighs 177 grams / 5.7 troy oz and has a gilded interior - all in excellent condition.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
