We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 17th-century French knop candlestick is characterised by a heavy cast brass construction, a broad circular or octagonal base for stability, and a turned stem featuring one or more raised central knops. These pieces were designed to hold tallow or beeswax candles prior to widespread electrification.

During the 17th century, candlesticks were typically cast in heavy brass using sand moulds, often created in multiple sections that were joined together. The socket usually features a small lateral hole or slot used to remove spent candle ends.

Authentic 17th-century brass candlesticks exhibit uneven hand-turning marks, heavy weight due to thick casting, and natural surface patination in recessed areas. The presence of extraction holes near the socket and core-casting seam marks inside the hollow base also indicate early manufacturing methods.

An antique brass candlestick can be styled as a focal element on a dining table centre, mantelpiece, or sideboard. Positioning brass items against dark wood, stone, or muted walls highlights the metallic warm tones and introduces historical texture to contemporary spaces.

To preserve the historical patina, avoid abrasive chemical polishes or harsh scrubbers. Dust regularly with a soft cloth, remove melted wax gently using warm water, and apply a light coating of microcrystalline wax to protect the metal surface.
