Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A coal purdonium is a specialized piece of Victorian fireside furniture designed to store coal neatly near a fireplace. It typically features a hinged or drop-front door concealing a removable metal lining or shovel, often topped with decorative shelving or mirrors.

Coal purdoniums were usually constructed from sturdy hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak to withstand frequent use. Internal linings were made of galvanized sheet iron or zinc, while handles and decorative mountings were typically cast brass or iron.

Authentic period examples display characteristic hand-carved details, dovetail joinery, and natural age-related wear around the base and interior. They often retain original brass carrying handles on the sides and original bevelled mirror inserts or decorative pediments.

A purdonium functions exceptionally well as a distinctive side table, hall accent, or unique storage solution for kindling, magazines, or footwear. Positioning it within a hearth alcove or reading nook adds rich historic character to modern or classic room schemes.

Keep the timber clean using a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to nourish the wood and preserve its warm patina. Ensure the interior remains completely dry to prevent moisture from causing swelling or metal corrosion.
