Very Rare Italian 800 Solid Silver Matchstriker Spill Holder Georgian 1815 144g

Description

A superb rare Italian solid silver spill or match holder - designed to sit on a mantlepiece for lighting the fire and candles. It is hallmarked with the 800 standard mark used from c1810-1815, I would date it to around this time, early 19th century. It has been superbly designed being in the form of a woodcutter, the matches or spills sit in his basket. It is in super condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. It measures approx. 5 inches (12.8cms) tall by over 2 inches across its base and weighs 144 grams. An extremely rare piece.
