The inscription on the lid reads:
'Presented by a few Sewed Muslin Manufacturers to Mr Rob Melville as a token of their appreciation of his kindly and assiduous attention to his duties, Glasgow, April 1866'.

It's hallmarked for Birmingham 1852 with the silversmiths mark for Hilliard & Thomason.
It weighs 138.6 grams/4.4 troy oz and the whole item is in excellent condition.
