The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The tray has a typical waisted shape and stands on 4 very small bun feet. Roses and foliage abound. There is a slight wobble on the tray. There looks to be a maker's mark on the underside, possibly 2 entwined 'U's. The snuffers carry the maker's mark of John Gilbert, which was registered in 1812 in Birmingham. The closing spring action is tight. Shell design on handles and body.
