This is a very attractive pair of pictorial rugs woven in the city of Kashan in Central Persia around 1920. They depict a wonderful vision of life on earth. From the lower centre one looks through a gate onto a wooded landscape with deers and as pond with fish. Further back there are buildings and what appears to be a town on the edge of a snowy mountain range. And to the background there is a sea. All this has been achieved on a small rug with great charm. The quality of the workmanship is also very high. The wool is soft and glossy and they have been finely knotted. Cherished through the generations, both pieces have survived in very good condition.
