Description

A wonderful solid sterling silver coffee pot dating from the reign of George III and carrying the all-important maker's mark of Andrew Fogelberg.

Andrew Fogelberg was an important Georgian silversmith. Born in Sweden he moved to London and gained a reputation for high quality silver items some of which are now exhibited in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. His most famous pupil was Paul Storr who went on to become the finest English silversmith of the 19th century.

This coffee pot is clearly hallmarked on the base for London 1770 and shows the restrained, tasteful style for which Andrew Fogelberg is known. Classic baluster shape, a plain body, wonderful quality reeded handle, a swirled acorn-shaped finial all finished with a very tasteful ruffle under the spout. The round pedestal base has a slight wobble.
