Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late nineteenth century, Arts and Crafts fire fenders were designed to enclose open hearths while highlighting manual metal craftsmanship over industrial mass production. In Scotland, designers often combined beaten copper sheets with architectural ironwork to create functional hearth borders.

Fenders from this movement typically combine hand-hammered sheet copper or brass with rolled and wrought iron structural elements. Components were fastened using hand-set rivets, brazed joints, and decorative corner brackets rather than modern electric welds.

Authentic period pieces display hand-planished surfaces showing subtle hammer marks, hand-riveted joints, and natural oxidisation within low-relief areas. Scottish pieces frequently feature distinctive twisted bar details, pierced upright motifs, and squared corner posts.

A metal fender provides a structured border around stone, marble, or tiled fireplace hearths in modern living spaces. It can also be styled as an architectural boundary piece or low display guard alongside hearth tiles.

Dust the metal regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth and avoid abrasive polishes that remove aged surface patina. Applying a light coat of microcrystalline wax protects the copper from atmospheric moisture and stabilizes the existing oxidisation.
