Description
This is a beauty! A solid sterling silver claret jug, assayed at the long-closed Glasgow Assay Office in 1890. The silversmith's mark is for James Reid & Co. The decoration is beautiful. The body of the jug is heavily detailed with Tibetan-styled characters and birds. Above and below the characters several chased decorations flow around the body, the base of the neck, underneath the pouring spout and along the back of the handle. There are initials in the cartouche, possibly 'ANP'. The handle is well-attached but a little loose at the top, as there are a couple of cracks in the insulator. There are a series of dents on the side of the base (also decorated!) which are shown in the photographs. A beautiful item. Dimensions: Silver Weight: 551g Height: 26cm Width: 16cm Diameter: 11cm.
