Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1940s.
The lid is hinged and the case opens when a rose gold-coloured button is pressed at the front. Inside the case has a lovely gilt finish and clear hallmarks are visible for London 1944 along with the Lion passant indicating sterling silver and the maker's mark: M Wachenheimer & Co Ltd.

This is a particularly fetching silver case. (It was intended as a compact as we know this maker only produced compact cases however, it could be used as a shallow case for other items.) It does not contain a mirror.
Condition: In great vintage condition.
Hallmarks: London 1944 by M Wachenheimer & Co Ltd.
