It is 4” (10 cms) tall and 6 1/2” (16.5 cms) across the base and is in excellent original condition.
There are a few places where the silver has worn and the copper is showing through and this adds to the attractiveness.
Sheffield plate was first used in Sheffield England around 1770. It consisted of a sheet of silver each side of a piece of copper and from about 1790 decorative borders were often applied which were fashioned from lengths of silver wire. The process of electroplating came into fashion around 1840 from when Sheffield plating ceased to be used.
