Unusual Large Threaded Glass Match Strike / Table Vesta - Sterling Silver 1898

Description

A stunning and a rather unusual departure from the plain match strike. Not only is this one larger than most it has an attractive vertical cut channel all around the globe.

The threaded glass surface would have been struck with a non-safety match on the textured surface; rather than today's modern safety matches.

The English solid or sterling silver match holder is hallmarked for Birmingham 1898, late Victorian in era, together with the makers mark for John Grinsell & Sons.

Excellent condition with tiny fleabites to the surface, which is normal for this type of strikes. Measures 3 1/2" in diameter x 3 1/4" tall.
