Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
Spring loaded, the case works perfectly and is in nice antique condition (there is a very small dent to the centre of the empty cartouche which we mention for accuracy).

Hallmarks are visible on the inside of the lid for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1901 and maker's mark for Alfred Wigley. (The hallmarks are visible but slightly worn). Partial marks are also visible on the spring loaded side of the case.
