George III, Old Sheffield Plate toated cheese dish, circa 1820.
Smart, unfussy, balanced design typical of good English work.
The finely turned hardwood handle unscrews to fill the base with boiling water to keep the contents warm.
Rectangular with reeded edges a hinged domed cover with urn finial.
A chain, located on the handle socket to hold the lid open at an angle to reflect heat down onto the cheese when stood in fornt of an open fire.
In good condition with minimal signs of use and wear, copper showing on some edges and patches.
The dish 10'' x 7'' x 3,3/4''
