Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.
The top has a silver collar with a hinged lid. The collar is fully hallmarked for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1913 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver, also with the maker's mark for John Grinsell & Sons. This lid is decorated with a stunning horses head, beautifully executed. (Partial hallmarks are also visible on the inside of the lid.)

A fabulous inkwell.
Condition: The inkwell is in lovely overall condition. There are some very minor tiny chips to the corners of the base which we mention for accuracy only.
