William IV Large Pair of Carved Mahogany Stools

Description

An exceptional William IV large pair of carved mahogany stools, with strong proportions giving major gravitas; the newly upholstered tan leather drop in seats being buttoned with a piped edge in a carved, flowerhead moulded seat frame, raised on very bold and shapely scrolled legs with acanthus and scrollwork carving; terminating in large lion paw feet. Stamped to the underside "WC Burt, Torquay"

Chalked to the under side "Stoke Edith" - Stoke Edith House was a major country house in Herefordshire, England. The 17th century quadrangular mansion was preceded by a multi-gabled, Elizabethan home. It was destroyed by fire in 1927
