Victorian English Sterling Silver Postage Stamp Box - Angels / Cherubs

Description

A most charming and unusual large postage stamp box beautifully decorated with three charming repousse angels or putti figures.

The box's quality is evident by the detail of this embossed decoration and when we look at the makers mark, we understand why, as it is made my the quality silversmith William Comyns, a highly collectible maker.

The interior is fitted with an ebonised wooded concave trough, where postage stamps could easily be retrieved by sliding out.

There is a hallmark to both top and bottom for London 1896, making this a true Victorian example. Excellent condition, measuring 4" x 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" tall.
