Novelty Edwardian Solid Silver Salt Cart

1900 - 1920
Description

This is a lovely, tactile piece of Edwardian whimsy - a solid sterling silver cockerel pulling a salt cart made from a delicate shell.

It is hallmarked on the side for Chester 1909, with the maker's mark of Robert Pringle & Sons and is in full working order, in as much as the wheels go round! The cockerel is solidly fixed to the harness. There is a very small dip on the edge of the shell rim, which may have been an original feature or may have been later damage. Amazing that it has survived all this time.

Dimensions:

Length: 7cm

Width: 4cm

Height: 2.5cm.

Post and packaging are free within the UK. Overseas buyers please e-mail for postage costs. Thank you.

Payment can be made via PayPal, bank transfer or cheque. A PayPal account is not needed - payment by credit or debit card can be made by pressing the ‘pay now’ button on the item page.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
