Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
The lid is hinged on one side and opens and closes nicely. To one side is a loop for attachment. Clear hallmarks are visible to the inside lip of the Vesta case and also partial marks on the lid (see images), for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1904 and maker's marks for Clark & Sewell. The area for striking matches is across the bottom of the Vesta.
