A Superb Pair Of 18th Century Silver Condiment Tubs

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jeff Sims Antiques

A superb pair of pierced silver condiment tubs, dating from the 18th Century. These fine items have circular bodies with beautiful fretwork featuring draped swags and three ball and claw feet. One has a large cartouche with a handsome armorial - this armorial is repeated on the base rim of the other. On the underside of the bases are the original pricked initials. The original use would have been for salt but due to the good capacity, the tubs lend themselves to a variety of table uses, such as mint sauce, cranberry, mayonnaise or parmesan. Beautiful pieces, both practical and decorative. Dimensions below.
