An Unusual Georgian Silver Harvey Sauce Bottle Label

A rare late Georgian silver 'Harvey Sauce' condiment Label. This wonderful piece is oval in shape and the word 'Harvy' is engraved to the centre. The label is supported on a belcher chain and the title is in 'pricked' initials. The word Harvey is curiously engraved without the E, making this an interesting quirk for the collector.

Harvey sauce is a bottled relish introduced in the late 18th century, and becoming very popular in the mid-nineteenth (a rival to Worcestershire sauce), and is still available today. Ingredients include anchovies, walnut pickle, soy sauce and shallots, cayenne, garlic and vinegar.
