19th Century Piano Stool

£650    $804    €769
A fine example of a 19th century stool in the Neo Classical style.

Historically Neo Classism was developed between 1750 and 1830.

The Victorian period, 1830-1901, was a melting pot for all sorts of Revival styles. This stool was made towards the end of the Victorian Period.

Adams, Sheraton, Chippendale, Hepplewhite and others, all fine furniture makers, artists and designer influenced the second revival of Neo classics.

the stool is of Architectural form, with Hepplewhite style tapering legs. We see that all scrolls, rococo style decoration (decoration at the expense of form) Regency exuberance has gone! All this replaced with straight lines and simple floral decoration.

The four supporting tapered legs are shaped at the top with lunette carving to each corner, reminding us of a simple Doric column, always the support in all Classical structures.

Trailing roses form the decoration to the frieze and legs.

Sympathetically reupholstered by the previous owner.
