London 1937 Superb and Unusually Heavy, Fine Quality Solid Silver Sugar Caster, Made by Ft Ray and Company.

1920 - 1940
Description

London 1937 English hallmarked solid silver very impressive large and fine quality sugar caster of baluster form. This is one of two that are available. With beautifully pierced top, having six alternating style sections of piercing, separated by threaded bands, it was made by FT Ray and Co.

Crafted in the George I style, it has a central girdle, a perfectly fitted pull off domed cover and finial, and stands on a circular foot.

Casters were made to dispense sugar over the top of food, confectionery, and drinks.

This caster was made from an extremely thick gauge of silver, as apparent by its weight, and has very clear hallmarks.

Size-6.25 inches high by 3.25 inches wide.

Weight-275 grams.

Considering the value of just the scrap weight of this caster, this is a wonderful value, as silver prices continue to soar.

A stunning and very fine example, in very good condition.

This is a wonderful, very classic and unusually heavy caster, made with excellent quality and craftsmanship.

An identical one, with identical hallmarks, is available if a pair is desired. It is sold separately. See last photo and listings. It is most unusual to have a pair available, particularly of such fine quality.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
