Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware made in the Netherlands and England, primarily during the 17th and 18th centuries, heavily inspired by imported Chinese porcelain.

These pieces are crafted from a buff-coloured clay body covered with an opaque white tin-oxide glaze, upon which cobalt blue designs are hand-painted before firing.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristics such as crazing, kiln grit, rim chips revealing the softer buff earthenware body beneath the glaze, and variations typical of hand-painting.

These chargers can be displayed on walls using plate hangers or mounted on specialised stands to introduce historical pattern and a classic blue and white palette to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires keeping pieces away from direct sunlight and moisture, dusting gently with a soft dry cloth, and avoiding immersion in water due to the porous nature of the historic glaze and body.
