The seat itself is firm, which means that you won’t sink into the upholstery, but at the same time, it is very comfortable to sit on. Within the underside of the seat, the stool boasts a H. Brooks & Co. patent raising / lowering cast iron mechanism. The height of the stool can be adjusted by turning either of the turned knobs situated on either side of the frame. The stool stands on four elegant turned, tapering reeded legs. Ideal for use as a piano stool.

H. Brooks & Co:
The company, originally founded by Cox Brooks, was founded in 1810 at 31 Lyme Street, Camden, London and predominantly made piano actions, hammer heads and keyboards. Cox’s son, Henry, focused on making parts for musical instruments, but also patented raising / lowering actions for seating. In 1920, the company amalgamated with Herrburger, a piano action manufacturer, becoming Herrburger Brooks. Up until 1998, they were based in Long Eaton, London. They exhibited at the British Industries fair in 1947 and in 1953 absorbed their Paris operation, so becoming Europe’s largest manufacturer of piano actions. The business was sold in 1965 to Kimball International Inc. who later sold to Harmony Pianos of Hong Kong in 1996.
