Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Caucasian rugs originate from the mountainous region between the Black and Caspian Seas, produced primarily by nomadic and village weavers. They are celebrated for their bold, abstract geometric patterns, strong saturated colours, and creative inclusion of tribal motifs, stylised animals, and human figures.

These carpets were traditionally hand-knotted using locally sourced, hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation. Dyes were derived naturally from plants, insects, and minerals, yielding rich red, indigo blue, and terracotta shades that develop a soft patina over time.

Authentic pieces from this period display slight irregularities in weave and pattern density due to hand-loom production. Look for natural abrash, which is a subtle colour variation within the dyed wool, a soft flexible back with visible knot structures, and hand-bound edges.

An antique tribal rug serves as a striking visual anchor when placed over pale hardwood floors or layered over neutral sisal matting. Its vibrant geometric design contrasts beautifully with sleek contemporary furniture, adding warmth and historical depth to minimal living rooms or hallway spaces.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating beater bar to avoid pulling the wool fibres. Promptly spot-clean spills with cold water and mild detergent, use a quality rug underlay to prevent slippage and pile wear, and arrange professional cleaning by an antique carpet specialist every few years.
