In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This antique flat-woven wool kilim originates from the Shirvan region of the eastern Caucasus during the last quarter of the 19th century. The piece follows a Caucasian tribal style with a flatweave slit construction. The flat-woven wool textile displays a polychrome palette dominated by rich shades of red and blue, complemented by accents of yellow, green, and white. The surface features horizontal bands filled with geometric patterns, including star motifs and 'birds-heads' lozenges dominating the field. Fringe is visible at the top and bottom edges, completing the traditional textile construction. The rug measures 189 cm high by 110 cm wide. In a modern interior, this rug functions as a decorative floor covering in a hallway, bedroom, or living space, adding traditional texture and colour to the room. It lays flat on the floor to introduce a historical element to interior schemes, bringing warmth and pattern to everyday living areas.

FAQs

A Shirvan kilim is a traditional flat-woven wool textile originating from the Shirvan region in the Eastern Caucasus, recognised for intricate geometric patterns, stepped medallions, and detailed horizontal bands.

These textiles are hand-woven using a slit-weave flatweave technique, employing hand-spun wool yarns for both warp and weft to create a durable, pileless structure with reversible patterns.

Authentic examples feature natural dye colorations with subtle abrash variations, fine hand-spun wool, traditional slit-weave construction, and precise geometric tribal iconography without synthetic backing.

Position the rug as a central ground layer in contemporary living spaces, or mount it securely on a wall as a decorative textile art piece to contrast clean architectural lines.

Vacuum gently using a suction-only attachment, rotate regularly to ensure even exposure to foot traffic, and treat liquid spills immediately by blotting before seeking specialist wool dry cleaning.
