Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The box opens and closes nicely and when opened a lovely pale lemony gilt finish is revealed. Both front and back bear the clear hallmarks for the London Assay office with a date mark for London 1893 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver. The maker's mark is also very clear for Sampson Mordan.

(Any black marks seen on images are reflections when photographing the item, the Box itself is free from any marks and the condition of the silver is excellent).
This is an exquisite box and is of the finest quality associated with a fine silvermaker!
