Description

A rare and unusual solid silver Vesta case by the renowned silversmith: Sampson Mordan & Co. The exterior of the case is a nice plain polished silver with no engraving or embossing. The lid, hinged on one side, opens and closes perfectly and when opened reveals the hallmarks on the lip for the London Assay Office with a date mark for 1896 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver. Here the maker's mark is also clearly visible for Sampson Mordan & Co. Unexpectedly, one side of the case pulls open and reveals a fabulous secret photo locket , gilded in a lovely lemony finish. where partial hallmarks are also visible.

A quite wonderful Vesta in lovely antique collector's condition. Good heavy gauge silver and very tactile!
