Carse Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
The base part being fretted aswell gives this basket a feel of lightness even though it is quite large. It is engraved all over and has engraved angel's faces in various places. There are initials on one side but they are not obtrusive and you have to look hard to see them. The basket was made by Crichton Brothers of London and New York who, according to the internet, specialised in silver baskets. The basket weighs 26 1/2oz.
