Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1920s.
The lid is hinged on the back and opens and closes perfectly. When open, the ivory coloured velvet interior is revealed. The base of the box is a lovely bottle green leather and is stamped 'Mappin & Webb' in gold lettering.

The clear hallmarks are also visible on the base frame for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1913 and Lion Passant, along with the makers mark: Mappin & Webb . Partial marks can also be seen on the side of the lid.

A splendid box, sublime in every way: Shape and design, proportions, condition, quality and colour of the tortoiseshell!
The quality of the silversmith is evident!
Condition: In lovely antique collector's condition.
