Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1920s.
The back has a small cartouch in the centre in the shape of a sheild. The hinged lid opens and closes perfectly. Hallmarks are clearly visible on the back of the stamp case for the Chester Assay office with a date mark for 1914 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver.

This is a rare item as it is unusual to find a stamp case decorated with such wonderful repousse work.
