A fine and substantial early Victorian silver presentation mason’s trowel or cake slice, with a broad teardrop shaped blade to which is applied a textured naturalistic cast handle with entwined swags and twisted branches, leaves and flowers, terminating in a daisy flower.
Hallmarked for London 1853, by Francis Higgins II.
Weight 10.57 Troy ounces (329 grammes), length 14” (36 cm).
Francis Higgins registered his first mark at Goldsmiths Hall in October 1817, working until 1879, producing high quality flatware. The firm would continue to do so until the outbreak of the War in 1939.
Condition: Excellent, with little sign of wear. The texturing on the handle remains sharp and well defined, and the blade has never been engraved. Hallmarked to the back of the blade and to the handle.
