Mappin & Webb Silver & Tortoiseshell Box Birmingham 1925

1920 - 1940
Description

An extremely attractive silver and tortoiseshell trinket box. Styled in oval form, the box is made from nicely plain polished silver with a protruding rim around the base and around the top of the lid. This emphasises the wonderful tortoisehell lid. Hallmarks are visible on the base underneath the box for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1925 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling and the Maker's mark is also clear for the renowned silversmith: Mappin & Webb. (Partial hallmarks can also be seen on the front of the lid).

The box stands on four handsome feet.

The lid is hinged at the back and opens and closes perfectly to reveal an ivory coloured velvet interior. The base of the box is covered with a nice brown leather.

This is an excellent box, beautifully crafted and in lovely antique collector's condition. The proportions are perfect and it is a good size (see dimensions).

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
