Chinese Imari porcelain refers to ceramics produced in China, primarily during the late 17th and 18th centuries, that adapted the colour palette and decorative style of Japanese Imari ware. These pieces were manufactured for export to Europe and featured a combination of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red, often accented with gilding.

Imari porcelain is constructed from kaolin clay and petuntse, firing to a hard, white vitrified body. The decoration utilises underglaze cobalt oxide for blue tones, applied before the initial high-temperature firing, followed by overglaze enamels such as iron oxide red applied during a second, lower-temperature kiln cycle.

Authentic Chinese Imari ceramics exhibit clear characteristics of hand-painted application, including slight variation in brushwork thickness and enamel depth.
