Antique Georgian Solid Silver Mote Spoon

18th century
Description

A lovely example of a solid sterling silver mote spoon.

Mote spoons came into use in the 1730s and had a two-fold usefulness: They were used to strain tea (which was at that time a leaf) and also to clear the spout and any straining holes in the teapot which had become blocked with the tea leaves, hence the pointed end.

The sterling mark on this spoon is discernible but the rest of the hallmarks are rubbed. The silver is in very good condition and, amazingly, there is no damage to the lovely symmetrical pattern of the bowl. There are initials ('HB') on the reverse of the bowl.

Dimensions:

Weight: 9g

Length: 13cm.

Post and packaging are free within the UK via Royal Mail special delivery. Overseas buyers please e-mail for postage costs. Thank you.

Please note: payment by credit or debit card can be made by pressing the ‘pay now’ button on the item page - A PayPal account is not needed.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
