The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
Mote spoons came into use in the 1730s and had a two-fold usefulness: They were used to strain tea (which was at that time a leaf) and also to clear the spout and any straining holes in the teapot which had become blocked with the tea leaves, hence the pointed end.
The sterling mark on this spoon is discernible but the rest of the hallmarks are rubbed.
There are initials ('HB') on the reverse of the bowl.
