This Regency rosewood and boxwood inlaid chiffonier displays the sophisticated cabinet-making characteristic of the period. The rich dark brown timber is accented with delicate boxwood stringing along the main body and an inlaid border on the top surface. A raised upper shelf incorporates brass pillars, a three-quarter brass gallery, and side panels with a metal lattice design. The front includes a central pull-out writing drawer lined with green material and fitted with small interior compartments, finished with lion mask drawer pulls. Below this, two doors feature pale pleated fabric behind a crisscross metal grille, adding texture and contrast to the dark wood finish. The structure stands on short legs terminating in brass paw feet. Measuring 120 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, this chiffonier provides practical surface and enclosed storage space. It suits placement in a living room, dining room, or entrance hall as a statement storage piece or display surface, with the pull-out drawer offering a compact writing or planning area.

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, a chiffonier is a low cabinet or small sideboard designed for versatility, frequently featuring brass galleries, open upper shelves, and lattice-backed cupboard doors for storing books and household items.

High-end Regency cabinet makers favoured exotic hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, accented with boxwood stringing, cast brass lattice work, gilt-metal mountings, and lion mask handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit classical proportions, brass grilles backed with fabric, fine timber veneers, cast brass paw feet, and hand-cut dovetail construction on original drawers.

A Regency chiffonier functions effectively in a dining room, hallway, or drawing room, serving as a focal storage piece beneath artwork or juxtaposed with contemporary lighting to highlight traditional craftsmanship.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax sparingly along the grain, while placing the cabinet away from direct sunlight and radiators to protect the timber veneers.
