Birmingham 1900 Rare Solid Silver and Cut Glass Biscuit or Cookie Barrel Made by Henry Williamson.

1900 - 1920
Description

Birmingham 1900 wonderful English hallmarked solid silver and cut glass biscuit barrel box or jar, made by Henry Williamson, with an unusual solid silver hinged top having an attached swing arm that automatically raises the lid when carrying handle is pushed back. Very clever engineering!

Biscuit barrels were very popular during the Victorian era, made to hold biscuits or cookies, but the majority were made in silver plate. This rare solid silver example is beautifully made, with lovely cut glass container, having a star cut base, thumb cut top band, and leaf and diamond cut centre section. It catches the light beautifully, and has an elegant shape.

All parts of the lid are hallmarked, and the hinge is strong and very nicely made.

Size-8 inches high to top of handle by 5.5 inches diameter.

Weight-790 grams.

In remarkable very good condition, this is a really lovely and functional unique solid silver and cut glass piece from the Victorian era. Still used for its original purpose as well as for sweets or whatever one likes.

A wonderful value for a solid silver and cut glass biscuit barrel. These are very sought after pieces.
