Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The circular base stands on it's original three ball feet with the central canister perhaps to contain the dead matches, topped with a lid mounted with what appears to be a sporting figure; I am unsure of the significance. He is holding a silver gilt rod like object.
In front of the canister or jar is the cigar holder for six cigars, either side are match-strikes or Vestas with threaded exteriors which were used to strike Vestas or non-safety matches (rather than the safety matches I am showing).
The underside is marked for George Travis & Co. and EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver.
Excellent condition and measuring 7 1/2" in diameter x 8" tall.
