Superb London 1910 Solid Silver Gilt Strawberry Dish by Excellent Makers Wakely and Wheeler, in the Original Fitted Case.

A really lovely Birmingham 1910 English hallmarked solid silver gilt strawberry dish or bowl made by Wakely and Wheeler, whose principals were James Wakely and Frank Clarke Wheeler, very good makers. They took over the business of Lias and Sons. It is reputed to be an exact copy of the Commonwealth Strawberry dish, circa 1650. The dish is contained in the original fitted blue and gilt decorated satin and velvet case. This was retailed by Skinner and Co., silversmiths and diamond merchants of the famous Bond St. in London, who have been in business since 1880, and have the Royal Warrant, making and selling solid silver to the Queen.

The bowl is beautifully made in a circular shape with scalloped edge and a scrolling band beneath, above a dangling repousse strawberry and foliate decoration with punch beading between. The centre is raised and is surrounded by similar design, while the handles are very well modelled shells.

The hallmarks are very clear, and the dish is an excellent quality and weight, and beautifully made.

Size-10 inches wide with handles, 6.5 inches diameter without. 1.25 inches high.

Weight-285 grams.

This is a most impressive and unusual piece of silver to own or to give as a gift, and will look beautiful on the table to use to serve strawberries or whatever you wish. It is also wonderful to have the original fitted case for storage, which has preserved the bowl so well.

It is the perfect gift for some lucky person, to commemorate an important event.

The dish is in wonderful condition, as is the case, with just some scuffing to one exterior edge of the fitted case.
