A fine and rare Regency period red lacquer footstool. The stool is on beautifully shaped and carved legs very much in the earlier Chippendale manner with a beaded line running down the centre and a carved paterae at the corners. The red lacquer with Chinoiserie gilt decoration is original and such a wonderful colour to have. The whole is in good country house condition, very sturdy and with appropriate wear around the edges. The stool has been newly upholstered in the finest velvet. This is a very unusual and rare piece of period furniture and highly decorative.
