Birmingham 1957 English Hallmarked Solid Silver Ciborium or Cup, with Gold Lined Interior, on a Silver Plated Pedestal. Made by Hayes and Finch, Most Important Makers.

1940 - 1960
Description

Birmingham 1957 fine quality English hallmarked solid silver ciborium or cup, made by HAYES AND FINCH, the world's finest makers of ecclesiastical furnishings, and having a silver plated pedestal.

In the Catholic, Anglican, and similar churches, the ciborium is a covered chalice like vessel used to contain the consecrated hosts for storing and/or distribution at Holy Communion. The cup is usually rounder in shape than a chalice, and has a cover. The interior bottom of the cup is raised at the centre, so that particles can be easily removed for purification, and the interior of the cup must always be lined with gold.

This ciborium meets all those specifications, and is beautifully crafted in a heavy gauge of silver, and with a very good weight and a tight fitting cover.

The solid silver cup threads on to a graceful flaring silver plate pedestal with a circular foot.

Size-7.5 inches tall by 4.5 inches diameter.

Weight-330 grams silver cup, and 540 grams total weight for shipping.

Still a wonderful vintage item for ecclesiastic use, or equally to use for serving or display by a collector. It makes a great talking point.

A really lovely, well crafted and unusual object in very good condition, with two tiny knocks to the underside of the solid silver cup and a small scratch to the upper silver plated column.

Offered at an wonderful price.

This is the kind of unique piece that doesn't come along very often.
