Late 19th Century Silver Plate Large Shell Butter Dish with Scroll Handle and Integrated Butter Knife Rack by James Deakin and Sons, Very Good Makers.

Description

Circa 1890 silver plate large shell butter dish with frosted liner and stylish split scroll and ball handle having an integrated stand for the included silver plated butter knife. Very clever and unusual.

The whole stands on ball feet, and was made by James Deakin and Sons of Sheffield, very good makers.

Also useful for caviar, pickles and olives, where a fork or spoon could be held in the stand holder instead.

The shell can also be used either with or without the liner (see photo).

Size-6 inches long by 5.5 inches wide by 3 inches high.

Weight-325 grams.

The liner has some edge nicks, mainly to the underside, which are not very visible from the top side.

A very stylish, unusual, and very good quality butter dish in overall good condition.

Many additional knives in solid silver and silver plate, and bread and pickle forks and spoons are in stock if desired to be used with this dish for multiple purposes.
